Mad Men
I've never been a dedicated television watcher. I prefer movies. Probably has a lot to do with my absolute revulsion of television advertising - I mean, come on, those station identification logos are onscreen through the entire show now?! Guess I should invest in a PVR. But I caught wind of a new show last year called Mad Men.
Unfortunately by the time I heard about how good it was, the first season had already run its course. Fortunately ACMtv ran the entire season again in Fall for those of us that were late getting on the bus. It's some of the best drama I've ever seen anywhere.

Here's the problem - I hate AMC. They say they play the classic movies, but then they edit and censor them beyond recognition.
Why would they play Blazing Saddles if they can't handle objectionable content? Everything in that movie is objectionable content. They turn MASH to mush.
They need to make a choice: are they going to play classic movies or are they going to host a crusade? They can start making their own movies and stop killing the classics.
Oh yeah, and that's why I haven't ever watched Mad Men. That, and work, family, yard, etc.

Let it be stated for the record that I am in no way, shape or form endorsing AMC. Nor do I cotton to those who would desecrate classic films by editing the guts out of them to fill their prime-time schedule or some corporate mandate. There should be a law against that sort of thing.
That said, you can catch Mad Men on CTV.
And as far as your other reasons for not watching go, I can offer no solution. They're the same reasons posts on this blog are so pitifully far and few between.
Just some AMC-related venom I had stored up. There's been a few too many nights where I've gotten excited to see a movie like The Godfather pop up on the menu, only to realize it's on AMC, and will only be a shadow of itself.
Even though Mad Men is making it's way to CTV, I probably still won't add it to the short list of shows I try to watch. Maybe I'll catch an episode later on and get so hooked that I'll wish I had followed from the beginning, but more likely I'll treat it like the Soprano's - I'm missing something everyone says is good, and it's not changing my life.
The law you want passed should include songs on the radio. No more talking over the intro just because the DJ thinks any part of the song without singing is useless, and no more cutting out full measures and chunks of the bridge just to fit it into 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Go write your own song.
Oops, another rant.

Which is why I don't listen to the radio anymore. Although it might also have something to do with the fact that I don't drive a car more than once or twice a month.
